In the shop we work in stages a portable setup can't: we dye-test the rug for colorfastness, pull the dry grit out before any water, then either submerge it for a full immersion wash and rinse or run a controlled low-moisture clean if the fiber can't take a soak. The rinse is the part you can't replicate at home, because it carries the loosened soil and any pet urine all the way out instead of pushing it deeper into the foundation.

Yes. Area rugs are cleaned in our shop, where we can fully control washing and drying for a deeper, safer result.
